Charged With Prescription Fraud in New Jersey

The New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance Act is directed at a wide array of drugs including a class known in the criminal code as prescription legends drugs. Addiction to prescription legend drugs like Valium, Oxycodone, Xanax, Percocet and Hydrocodone is unfortunately commonplace in New Jersey. Recreational use of pharmaceutical CDS is also high. The combination of these factors has translated in many more cases involving prescription fraud than in the past. A conviction for violating this statute results in up to 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $50,000 and a driver’s license suspension of 6-24 months. These penalties apply on top of those for a related offense alleging theft by deception, forgery or another criminal charge in the same complaint or indictment.
